About IPR Cell
An Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell is a dedicated unit within an institution, university, or organization aimed at fostering innovation, protecting intellectual property, and promoting awareness about the importance of intellectual property rights. It plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the creative and innovative efforts of faculty, students, and researchers are recognized and safeguarded.
Mission
To nurture creativity and innovation by providing comprehensive support for the protection, management, and commercialization of intellectual property, thereby contributing to society’s academic, social, and economic development.
Key Objectives of an IPR Cell
1. Promote Awareness:
  • Educate stakeholders about various forms of intellectual property (patents, copyrights, trademarks, designs, etc.) and their significance.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and training programs on IPR policies and procedures.
2. Facilitate IP Protection:
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating inventions, innovations, or creative works for intellectual property protection.
  • Guide faculty, staff, and students through the process of filing patents, copyrights, trademarks, and other forms of IP.
3. Encourage Innovation:
  • Motivate researchers and innovators to engage in original and cutting-edge work.
  • Provide a platform to showcase innovations and encourage commercialization.
4. Support Commercialization:
  • Facilitate technology transfer and licensing of intellectual property to industries.
  • Promote start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures based on protected intellectual property.
5. Policy Development:
  • Develop and implement institutional IPR policies aligned with national and international standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in IP management.
Functions of an IPR Cell
1. Advisory:
  • Provide advice on IP-related matters, including protection, infringement, and disputes.
  • Help in drafting patent specifications and technical documentation.
2. Administrative Support:
  • Manage the filing and registration of intellectual property applications.
  • Maintain records of IP filings, approvals, and commercialization activities.

  • Train faculty, researchers, and students in IP-related skills, including patent searching and drafting.
